Overview of the Norton Community Schools 21st Century Engaged Classroom Program
With principal recommendation and support, three teachers from each school will be selected to participate in the Norton Community Schools Engaged Classroom Model Program during the 2009-10 school year.
One teacher will be designated as the teacher trainer
Two teachers will be designated as teacher trainees
(Adjust this group to include 5-8 teachers to prepare for the first wave of laptops for students. Grades 5-8 are slated to receive laptops beginning the 2010-2011 school year)
Both trainer and trainees will receive instructional technology tools, professional development, and/or mentoring to assist them in creating a more engaged classroom, with the ultimate goal of increasing student learning.
The teacher trainer will participate in an initial 4-day training where they will receive various technology tools and training on 21st Century learning(LoTI Training). They will also attend monthly inservices at which time they will receive new technology tools and training on how to integrate these tools into their curriculum.
Teacher trainers will be responsible to mentor the two teacher trainees on how to use and integrate the new technology tools as well as how to implement 21st Century teaching strategies in their classroom. Teacher trainees do not attend the initial 4-day training nor do they attend the monthly inservices.
Note: The teacher trainers and teacher trainees will have priority shared access to the mobile carts, the digital video camera, and the student response system.
The core curriculum focus for the Norton Community Schools Engaged Classroom Model Program is as follows;
Elementary Schools - 5-6 grade teachers with the focus on Science or Social Studies
Middle Schools - focus on Social Studies/Science
High Schools - focus on Social Studies/Science
